Mini Facelift in Shreveport
At our Shreveport practice, double-board-certified facial plastic surgeon Dr. Lindsey Pennington avoids performing mini facelifts in favor of mini extended deep plane facelifts. These provide longer-lasting and more comprehensive results that retain their quality over time.
What is a Mini Facelift?
The term “mini facelift” is a buzzword used to refer to several different types of facelift techniques. There isn’t a single agreed-upon definition among plastic surgeons for it. Because of this, a mini facelift from one surgeon may deliver different results compared to a mini facelift from another surgeon.
A mini lift generally involves tightening a small amount of skin near the temples. They don’t offer much correction, and the midface still sags after the procedure.
Within a year or two, issues corrected by the mini facelift may occur again. Additionally, after a mini facelift, the natural aging process can cause the face to look unnatural.
Just like other types of facelifts, a mini facelift involves surgery and creates a scar, but the results aren’t nearly as long-lasting.
Because of these factors, Dr. Pennington avoids performing mini facelifts. Instead, she prefers to perform mini extended deep plane facelifts. These offer much better results and involve removing a little less skin than the usual extended deep plane facelift.

What is the Difference Between a Mini Facelift and a Deep Plane Facelift?
A mini facelift has the same incisions as a deep plane facelift and creates the same scar line. However, beyond this, they are very different techniques and have very different results.
A mini facelift involves removing only a little bit of skin and performing only a small amount of lifting. It doesn’t feature dissection of a large area of tissue. The SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system) layer, which is located beneath the fatty tissue layer, is not addressed.
In contrast, a deep plane facelift features dissection down to the sub-SMAS level. Skin is dissected, and ligaments are released in areas where the fat pads and muscles are attached. Because of this, full correction and full lift can be achieved. There isn’t any awkward separation between the front and back areas of the face, and movement stays dynamic and natural.
A mini facelift doesn’t offer long-lasting results, and issues typically spring up again within a year or two. Its results look less natural as time passes. An extended deep plane face lift, on the other hand, creates long-lasting results that continue to look very natural as the years go by.

Where Will My Procedure Be Performed?
Your mini extended deep plane facelift will be performed at Evangeline Suites, Dr. Pennington’s private AAAASF-accredited surgical center.
What Happens During the Procedure?
At the start of a mini extended deep plane facelift at our Shreveport facility, anesthesia is administered. Dr. Pennington creates a precise incision in the temporal hairline. This reaches down in front of the ear, curves around the earlobe, and comes back up into the hairline.
Next, Dr. Pennington dissects the tissues, releases facial ligaments, and lifts from beneath the SMAS. Finally, she seals the incisions and dresses them.
