All of the fillers used at Pennington Facial Plastics are made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body, and this is just a synthetic version of it that dissolves over time.
Before Your Filler Treatment
To optimize your dermal filler treatment and minimize potential risks, patients should:
- Avoid Alcohol: Refrain from consuming alcoholic beverages 24-48 hours before your appointment, as alcohol may thin the blood and increase the risk of bruising.
- Limit Blood Thinners: Avoid anti-inflammatory medications (aspirin, ibuprofen, NSAIDs), fish oil, and vitamin E for two weeks before treatment. Use Tylenol for any discomfort instead.
- Reduce Bruising Risk: Consider taking Bromelain a week before the procedure and Arnica tablets afterward to minimize bruising and swelling.
- Timing: Schedule your appointment at least two weeks before any major events.
- Reschedule if Necessary: Postpone if you have a cold, rash, or infection near the treatment area.
- Contraindications: Dermal fillers are not suitable for individuals who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Be sure to follow these pre-treatment instructions before your appointment.
After Dermal Filler Injections
Immediately after the treatment, there may be redness, bruising, swelling, tenderness, and/or itching near the injection site. We will provide you with an ice pack to use for 10-15 minutes at time. You may take acetaminophen (Tylenol) to reduce any pain. Be sure to follow these post-treatment instructions to ensure optimal healing and results.

How long do fillers last?
Fillers last for varying amounts of time. The standard Ultra or Ultra Plus can last anywhere from nine to 12 months, Volbella and Velour, can last anywhere from 12 to 18 months, and Voluma, which is commonly used in the cheeks, can last anywhere from 18 to months. Dr. Pennington uses the Allergan line of fillers which is very versatile and can be used in multiple locations.
On-label uses include the nasolabial folds, lips or around the mouth, as well as in the cheek area. Off-label areas include the tear troughs, temples, jawline, or even areas such as the nose.
An additional benefit of the Allergan line of fillers that I use is that the products are completely reversible. There's an enzyme that you can inject that dissolve all of the products.
