The extended deep plane facelift—Dr. Pennington’s most commonly performed technique—features deeper and wider dissection of the tissues. All of the ligaments are released instead of only certain ligaments. This allows for even more effective jawline revitalization and neck rejuvenation. Most surgeons are unable to perform this specialized technique.
A preservation facelift is a type of extended deep plane facelift that involves less skin dissection, which helps minimize postoperative swelling and reduces recovery time. It also reduces bruising and minimizes the likelihood of complications.
During the procedure, Dr. Pennington elevates the skin starting from the area adjacent to the ear and extending approximately one inch toward the lateral midface (cheek region). From that point, she enters the deep place and the dissection continues entirely within the deep plane, extending toward the nasofacial junction near the base of the nose.
This approach allows for effective mobilization and repositioning of the facial soft tissues—particularly the midface, nasolabial fold region, and jowls—by lifting and redraping them in a more youthful position toward the area near the ear, so the deep plane actually extends to the ear and any excess skin is removed.

Dr. Pennington personally designed this space with your safety, comfort, and overall care in mind. The facility features a fully equipped operating room, a specialized procedure suite, and private areas for both pre- and post-operative recovery.

Because the deep plane facelift recovery process can sometimes be stressful and confusing, our patients are encouraged to reach out for support at any time. We give our patients Dr. Pennington’s personal cell phone number, along with the number of her surgical care coordinator. Patients often ask questions and send photographs while they are healing.
To ensure a smooth recovery, all facelift patients stay overnight at our accredited facility with a Registered Nurse. The following morning, patients have their first post-op appointment and receive a hyperbaric oxygen treatment. Those participating in our recovery protocol will also receive their IV at this time. Afterward, patients may return to a nearby Vrbo, hotel, or their home (if local), accompanied by a family member or sitter of their choice. We’re happy to offer recommendations for sitter services if needed.
To support faster healing, Dr. Pennington and her husband have developed a time-tested recovery protocol. This includes a peptide and amino acid supplement taken the week before surgery, hyperbaric oxygen therapy leading up to and following surgery, and healing-support IV infusions. The first infusion is administered during surgery, and the second is given the next day during the post-op appointment. These infusions include ingredients such as vitamin C, glutathione, B-12, arginine, magnesium, and zinc to enhance recovery.
To further decrease downtime and ensure that deep plane facelift scars fade effectively, we provide scar microneedling for local patients two to four weeks after surgery. A specifically designed serum is infused into the tissues. For out-of-town patients, we provide the serums, and patients visit a local clinic for their microneedling.
